His Mercy Is More

His Mercy Is More

by Andrew Carr on September 23, 2019

Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity

    and passing over transgression

for the remnant of his inheritance?

He does not retain his anger forever,

because he delights in steadfast love.

He will again have compassion on us.   - Micah 7:18

The passage from Micah here is one I daily cling to. Who else in heaven or on earth is like our God? Who else continually forgives us and pours out grace over our constant mistakes? It’s remarkable to think about, really. When I try to just count up the mistakes I’ve made in a single morning, I realize that they’re always too many to keep up with.

And this passage reminds me, that although my sins are many, His mercy is more.

This Sunday, we’re going to be learning a new song together that focuses on this idea. I can’t wait to sing it together, but before we do I wanted to preview it here!

The song is called ‘His Mercy is More’ and the focus is all on praising the Lord for the riches of His mercy. Here’s the chorus:

Praise the Lord

His mercy is more

Stronger than darkness, new every morn

Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

This song has been a wonderful encouragement and reminder that God’s love is greater than anything I could ever do. That His love covers me, welcomes me back, and holds me fast. I hope you’ll take a few minutes this week and listen to it and on Sunday, come ready to sing together!

Full Lyrics:

VERSE 1

What love could remember no wrongs we have done

Omniscient, all knowing, he counts not their sum

Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore

Our sins they are many, his mercy is more

VERSE 2

What patience would wait as we constantly roam

What father, so tender, is calling us home

He welcomes the weakest, the vilest, the poor

Our sins they are many, his mercy is more

VERSE 3

What riches of kindness he lavished on us

His blood was the payment, his life was the cost

We stood 'neath a debt we could never afford

Our sins they are many, his mercy is more

CHORUS

Praise the Lord

His mercy is more

Stronger than darkness, new every morn

Our sins they are many, his mercy is more
