There Is A Reason For Hope

There Is A Reason For Hope

by Ed Stewart on September 28, 2020

“Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
    my salvation.” – Psalm 42:5

I remember the day this verse made its home in my heart.

I was struggling with the loss of my first-born son.  There were several pains, hard times and trials going on amid his loss.  I was burned out mentally and physically.  Spiritually I was dry.

I remember being so broken that I got down on the living room floor of our rental house and poured out my heart to God, “Lord, I can’t take this!  Please remind me I am Yours and You are mine.”

I got off the floor, picked up my Bible and started scanning through Psalms…the above verse grabbed my heart!

I was cast down…I was in turmoil.  The current state of my life had become all I could see.  That verse reminded me that God is alive!  He is with me, living in me, providing comfort, peace and strength.  And, when I put my hope not in me, but the eternal God, notice what happens.  I SHALL AGAIN PRAISE HIM!

I have praised Him in the past.  He’s answered my prayers in the past.  He’s been with me through the fire in the past.  As He is now.  As He will do in the future.

From that moment on, I have seen His hand at work…in Life’s hardest, most challenging issues.  Because the resurrection power of the Living God is at work…always!

My hope is built on the bedrock of God’s character, His work, His Word and His presence, actively at work in me.

“The hope that God has provided for you is not merely a wish. Neither is it dependent on other people, possessions, or circumstances for its validity. Instead, biblical hope is an application of your faith that supplies a confident expectation in God's fulfillment of His promises. Coupled with faith and love, hope is part of the abiding characteristics in a believer's life.” – John Broger

There is a reason for hope…no matter how dark the night!  There is joy and peace for you…the resurrection power that raised Christ from the dead is with you!  Remember that…reflect on that.  You will rejoice!  You will praise!

“Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
    my salvation.” – Psalm 42:5
